AI & Bias: Challenges and Opportunities for Diversity

Overview:

AI systems are not neutral. They reflect and amplify existing biases, influencing decisions and reinforcing narratives through the created content. This workshop explores the ways in which AI, particularly generative models, can both reinforce and challenge diversityrelated biases.
Participants will engage with AI tools—such as ChatGPT or other LLMs—to identify and reflect on biases of their own and within the technology. The session highlights
how AI should be used carefully, but also how it can be leveraged as a critical tool for self-awareness and inclusive thinking. The workshop also briefly connects to the exhibition 'Her mit den Portr[AI]ts!' at Uni Bonn, which showcases how generative AI has been used to visualize overlooked women scientists receiving the recognition they were historically denied.
