Excellence and Diversity

Programme: • 10:30 – 12:00 - DE-I-TECT Lecture • 12:00 – 13:30 - Lunch and Networking Ute Klammer, Professor at the Institute of Sociology, University of Duisburg-Essen, will give a scientific talk about her research covering the core DETECT-relevant questions: what is scientific excellence and how can this be rendered visible? Various studies provide evidence that women and men are perceived and evaluated differently in their academic performance. This means that white men appear to be advantaged over their women counterparts. Their actions, abilities and appearance are often linked to a higher level of competence, while women researchers are frequently not (made) visible. In this talk, we discuss questions of understanding excellence and diversity in scientific performance, and how they are related – are they friends or foes?
