According to the Global Gender Gap Report, gender parity in Europe will not be reached for another 60 years. This is most definitely too long a wait! The time for gender equality is NOW! – This card was accompanied by a bag of tea: “Gender Equalitea”.

Women in academia still face many structural barriers. These are often described through the image of the ‘gap’, such as the gender care gap, gender gap in mobility, gender gap in leadership and politics.

Researchers with children were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, mothers most of all. Studies prove that their careers have suffered disproportionaly, as illustrated, for instance, by the gender citation gap.

Putting gender equality in language into practice: the University of Bonn was one of the first institutions of higher education to consistently use the “gender star” (*) in all of its job advertisements. But the road there was long!
