Gender Equality in Student Life
Students represent the largest group at the University of Bonn and both their everyday life and their perceptions are highly diverse. This makes it all the more important to consider aspects of gender equality in studying and in student life in order to establish equal access and perspectives for all students. University life does not remain untouched by issues such as gendered stereotypes, binary thinking and heteronormativity, sexism, unequal treatment and discrimination based on gender.
Gender equality in student life means:
- improving didactics with regard to gender equality
- teaching issues related to gender in classes
- improving the compatibility of studying and care work
- consistent use of inclusive language that respects all genders
- reduction of structural barriers and obsolete structures of power at the university and in classes
In addition, students are to be encouraged and supported in showing active commitment to furthering gender equality in their departments and across the university.
